Project Overview

Glasgow's new adults and children's Hospital delivers a truly significant standard of healthcare to the community, modernising services and provide state-of-the-art facilities. The £842 million project bestows Glasgow with one of the most advanced adult acute hospitals in the UK. The New Build general Hospital serves the Southern Glasgow area, which will replace and augment several existing hospital units. We were delighted to be involved in the project, having secured an agreement with main contractor Brookfield.

The new Adults Hospital is one of the most progressive in Europe, and with an estimated 110,000 patients going through its doors every year it will be one of the largest emergency departments in Scotland. The hospital is the home of major specialised services such as renal medicine, transplantation and vascular surgery. The main NSGH incorporates over 20 operating theatres which will be active on a 24/7 basis. The project makes extensive use of daylight by incorporating several full height internal atrium and courtyard areas, several of which view and give access to extensive roof garden areas.

In particular, the existing Children's hospital at Yorkhill will be supplemented by NSGH's Children's Unit, including dedicated surgical and oncology facilities. The Children's hospital will provide advanced medical care and will be linked to the maternity services and the new Adult Hospital, in order to provide the best care for new-borns and their mothers. Although both departments will be integrated, they will have separate functions and entrances – both combined create around 1.8 million sq feet of hospital.

The new hospital will provide 1,109 adult beds in single room accommodation, 256 children's beds, 30 modern operating theatres and a separate laboratory block – which will be supported by 10,000 employees.

The total duration of the project lasted 27 months and was delivered within programme and on budget. The total works that we installed accumulated to a value of £8,750,000 this includes works such as; floor screeds, soft flooring with coved skirting, anti-static flooring, resin flooring, wall vinyl/hygienic coverings, specialist entrance matting, ceramic floor and wall tiling, staircase finishes, raised access flooring and finished service access covers. Brookfield were pleased to have worked with us on Glasgow Hospital and are delighted with the overall performance on the project.
