- East Sussex
Project Details
Project Overview
Having carried out a number of stadia works for Buckingham Group, AC plc were the obvious choice when selecting an experienced and capable flooring sub-contractor for this new state-of-the-art Stadium for Brighton & Hove Albion FC.
The Community Stadium will seat 22,500 fans and is built to the east of the City at Falmer, adjacent to the existing University of Brighton campus. As well as providing top quality stadium facilities for general spectators the scheme will incorporate BHAFC'S offices, a club shop, corporate hospitality and conference facilities which will have dual use with the Football Club's education partners, plus independent education space for the local College. The total value of this contract is £65 million.
AC's scope of works for the building was extensive and included a number of custom design carpets to aid in the visual and quality requirements required by the stadium, a large number of manufacturers were required to ensure the detailed design requirements were achieved and the manufacturers included: Shaw, Christy, Desso, Milliken and Interface for the carpets and carpet tiles. Armstrong, Polyflor, Altro, Tarkett and Nora were utilised for the resilient coverings and Domus were employed to supply the tiling.
Work on the new Falmer Stadium design started ten years ago. Planning consent was finally secured in July 2007 after two public planning inquiries. The Stadium scheme has been designed by London Sports Architects KSS Design Group and works commenced on site in December 2008 with completion in May 2011. The Stadium has been designed to interact with the surrounding natural landscape on the edge of the Sussex Downs. The impressive curved arch roof reflects the shape of the rolling countryside and therefore compliments the landscape.
