Project Overview

AC PLC played a pivotal role in the development of Peterborough City Hospital which is now regarded as the city's most significant building project since its cathedral was built in 1238.

The healthcare campus features: a 612-bed, 22-theatre Major Acute Hospital; a 98-bed Mental Health Unit; a 39-bed City Care Centre; a multi storey car park; helicopter pad; hard and soft landscaping and highway works.

The Acute Hospital encompasses specialist areas including; a Cancer Centre, Cardiology Centre, a Women's and Children's Unit and Adult and Paediatric Emergency Centres.

Peterborough Hospital was the first project where Brookfield Multiplex and AC PLC combined forces to provide an exceptional flooring installation for Peterborough NHS Trust. To provide Brookfield the reassurances that AC PLC could deliver on such a large scale we were initially awarded the smaller Mental Health Unit (6000m2), this enabled Brookfield to understand AC PLC's strong ethos in delivering high quality installations to programme. As a result of our performance at the MHU, Brookfield promptly contracted us to follow on with the flooring installation at the ICC (6000m2) and larger Acute (80,000m2) sections of the Hospital.

Assisted by Brookfield Multiplex's strong understanding of our on-site requirements coupled with a progressive management style, our works and the project was completed three months ahead of schedule at a value of £400 million (AC's value £4.8M).

AC's scope of works for the building was extensive and included: Tremco DPM's and pumped applied smoothing compounds, Tarkett Vinyl to the all floor areas, Altro Vinyl to shower room walls, Interface Carpet Tiles, Isocrete K Screed, Domus ceramic tiling using Ardex adhesives and grouts, Gradus Entrance Matting, timber flooring and the supply and installation of mechanical movement joints and manhole covers.
